Este 1 de junio inicia oficialmente la temporada ciclónica en la cuenca del Atlántico, período que se extenderá hasta el 30 de noviembre y durante el cual las autoridades meteorológicas, los organismos de protección civil y las instituciones de respuesta a emergencias mantienen una vigilancia permanente sobre la formación y evolución de sistemas tropicales.

La temporada ciclónica representa uno de los períodos de mayor atención para los países del Caribe, especialmente para la República Dominicana, debido a su ubicación geográfica en una de las zonas más expuestas al impacto de tormentas tropicales y huracanes.

Los efectos de las últimas temporadas ciclónicas han puesto de manifiesto la vulnerabilidad de numerosas comunidades dominicanas. Durante los últimos años, fenómenos atmosféricos han provocado inundaciones urbanas y rurales, deslizamientos de tierra, daños a viviendas, pérdidas en la producción agrícola, interrupciones del servicio eléctrico y afectaciones a la infraestructura vial.

Entre los eventos más significativos se destacan los daños ocasionados por los huracanes Fiona (2022) y Franklin (2023), así como por diversos sistemas de lluvias que impactaron el territorio nacional, dejando pérdidas económicas millonarias y afectando a miles de familias. Asimismo, las intensas precipitaciones registradas en noviembre de 2023 provocaron inundaciones históricas en el Gran Santo Domingo y otras provincias, evidenciando la necesidad de fortalecer la planificación urbana, el manejo adecuado de los drenajes y la cultura de prevención ciudadana.

Ante el inicio de la temporada 2026, las autoridades exhortan a la población a mantenerse informada a través de fuentes oficiales, identificar las zonas de riesgo en sus comunidades y preparar planes familiares de emergencia. Entre las recomendaciones principales figuran la revisión de techos y estructuras vulnerables, la limpieza de cañadas y desagües cercanos a las viviendas, la protección de documentos importantes y la preparación de kits de emergencia con agua, alimentos no perecederos, medicamentos y equipos de iluminación.

Expertos en gestión de riesgos coinciden en que la prevención continúa siendo la herramienta más eficaz para reducir el impacto de los fenómenos hidrometeorológicos y proteger la vida de las personas.

La temporada ciclónica no solo constituye un desafío para las autoridades, sino también una responsabilidad compartida por toda la ciudadanía, que debe asumir una actitud preventiva y solidaria frente a cualquier eventualidad que pudiera presentarse durante los próximos seis meses.

La preparación salva vidas y fortalece la resiliencia de las comunidades frente a los efectos del cambio climático y los eventos meteorológicos extremos.

Durante el acto, el mandatario destacó que esta obra representa un paso firme hacia la transformación tecnológica de la nación, permitiendo que jóvenes y emprendedores tengan acceso a herramientas de última generación para su formación.

“Estamos construyendo un país donde la tecnología sea un puente hacia mejores oportunidades para todos los dominicanos”, expresó Abinader durante su discurso.

El nuevo centro cuenta con laboratorios equipados, salas de capacitación, acceso a internet de alta velocidad y programas de formación en áreas como programación, producción audiovisual y marketing digital.

Autoridades locales, empresarios y representantes del sector educativo estuvieron presentes en la ceremonia, donde también se realizó el tradicional corte de cinta y un recorrido por las instalaciones.

Este proyecto forma parte de un plan nacional orientado a fortalecer la economía digital y fomentar la empleabilidad en sectores estratégicos.
